Jewellery and Sacred Items

Rudraksha, sandalwood and crystal prayer malas with gemstones and a small Ganesha idol on a brass plate

Some sacred items are worn close to the body for a lifetime of devotion, others reserved for the deity alone. This section of Avyani's Master Samagri Catalogue gathers twelve such reusable items, from prayer malas to deity ornaments.

Unlike consumable flowers or powders, sacred jewellery and ornamental items are reusable and often hold personal or ceremonial significance beyond a single puja. Avyani's Master Samagri Catalogue records twelve such items, most preserved and reused across a lifetime.

Malas for Japa and Devotion

The Rudraksha Mala (रुद्राक्ष माला) and Tulsi Mala (तुलसी माला) are the two most common prayer beads used for mantra recitation, described throughout our Jaap and Paath guide — Rudraksha associated especially with Shiva worship, Tulsi with Vishnu devotion. Both are traditionally kept for personal use rather than shared.

Marriage and Auspiciousness

The Mangalsutra (मंगलसूत्र), a mandatory sacred marriage necklace, and Red Bangles (Chudi), worn as part of Suhaag (marital) rituals, both connect directly to our Marriage Rituals guide.

Gemstone Sets

Navratna (नवरत्न), a nine-gem set, is used specifically for Navagraha rituals described in our Navagraha and Dosha Nivaran guide, while the related Panchratna (five-gem set) is used for Kalash Sthapana, the installation ritual described in our Kalash and Utensils guide.

Deity Ornamentation and Temple Items

Deity Ornaments (Shringar Set) are used for Alankaram and Kalyanotsavam — the decorative and wedding-reenactment sevas described in our Temple Seva and Temple Festivals and Special Sevas guides. Guru Paduka, sacred sandals representing a teacher, are used specifically in Guru Puja, part of our Health, Children and Education Rituals guide. A Yantra (यंत्र), a sacred geometric diagram plate specific to a deity, is a more advanced devotional object, such as the Shri Yantra described in our Lakshmi Rituals guide.

Protective and Regional Items

A Silver or Copper Coin is a common auspicious offering, while a Silver/Metal Naag-Nagin Pair is used specifically for Naga Panchami worship and Naga Dosha remedies, connecting to our Regional Rituals and Navagraha and Dosha Nivaran guides.
