Naivedya

A brass thali of naivedya offerings including kheer, vegetable dishes, laddoos, a modak and puris, with a lit lamp, banana and coconut nearby

Naivedya is more than food set before the deity — once offered, it becomes prasad, grace returned and shared with everyone present. Avyani's Master Samagri Catalogue records eight naivedya items, three of them mandatory, from a simple betel nut to sweets tied to a single festival.
